If you're a regular reader of our real estate column, you'll know that there are a surprising number of castles and medieval-style homes dotted around the US. We ranked some of the wildest examples in a previous list — but this time, we're leaning into the lavish side of things.

From grand, Disney-esque structures to French chateau-inspired homes, here are a bunch of castles that are currently on sale, just waiting for some lucky multi-millionaires to snap them up.

Maggie Valley, North Carolina — $3,900,000

Nestled amongst mountain woodland in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, this impressive dwelling manages to be both a conspicuously grand home and a secluded, cozy retreat.

The property is comprised of a main residence and a guest house, and there are eight beds and four baths across its total 8,834 square feet — but while it's very nice to have lots of lovely, large rooms, the mountain views surrounding the place on all sides are what really make it special.

Orem, Utah — $7,800,000

This spectacular Utah home, listed at just under $8 million, was designed to mimic "the appearance of a centuries-old estate transported from the French countryside" — and looking inside, you can see no expense was spared to achieve that vision.

Wooden ceiling beams, ornate decoration and carved, nineteenth-century doors hark back to a century long-gone, while the 400-year-old fountain in the garden was sourced from a small French village. The medieval theme is largely abandoned when it comes to the private theater, gym, sauna and elevator, though — because what modern-day millionaire can be expected to live without those essentials?

Beverly Hills, California — $6,495,000

The Robmar Estate in Beverly Hills is the epitome of luxury and excess; grand, French colonial architecture, a spectacular foyer and double staircase, intricately painted ceilings and a glitzy chandelier in every room. The quintessential "rich person" house, really.

Listed at $6.49 million, it's undoubtedly an impressive property — but the inside of the home isn't, in my humble opinion, as unique or elegant as that striking exterior would have you expect.

Calabasas, California — $7,250,000

Another French chateau-inspired build, this palatial six-bed, 11-bath home is sat on more than 10 acres of land with beautiful views of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Measuring in at a considerable 11,078 square feet, the place has almost too many features to name, but the stand-outs are its rooftop observatory, subterranean stone wine cellar, formal library and infinity-edge pool with a majestic waterfall grotto.

Clifton, Texas — $5,500,000

This is an utterly ludicrous building. Perched over Lake Whitney — and with multiple grand balconies from which to admire the view — it looks like it was built to host royal weddings, rather than serve as a home for actual people.

The gigantic ballroom alone accounts for 3,000 of the home's 11,134 square feet, and there's also a bridal suite and groom's dressing room built in. When it comes to living space, there's a luxury penthouse on the third floor, and the property also accommodates 10 guest bedrooms, a frankly ridiculous 15 bathrooms and a three-bedroom guest house. Even if you've got $5.5 million to splash on a property, who's got enough friends to fill all those rooms?
