CouponBirds looked into Instacart data for dozens of US cities to find out one thing: who is overpaying for chocolate? Inflation, taxes, supply, demand โ€” there's a lot that goes into the economics of chocolate, but thankfully if you're a chocoholic we can assist in finding a new home; so you can get the most bang for your buck.

New York City is the most expensive place (and city) to buy chocolate, where it costs twenty percent more than the national average. On the other hand, Hawaii is the most expensive state to buy chocolate in. The average cost there is 12.9 percent higher than the national average.

The cheapest states to buy chocolate are Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Maine, so any New Yorkers looking to buy in bulk should take a road trip up the coast.

Circling back to Hawaii, folks in Honolulu pay 40 percent more for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups than the national average. That seems like a crime worth investigating.
